Mid-Century State by State:: Oregon

Oh, Oregon. Our neighbor to the south with so much steez (style+ease).

Sometimes it takes everything inside us, not to drop everything we’re doing and go south for a given event or restaurant we’ve learned of. Then again sometimes we do drop everything and go south.

Continuing our series on Mid Century homes around the country. We are headed down to Oregon. The home we are featuring today was designed by Frank Shell in 1955. Recently, this home was on the market and one lucky family got a piece Oregon history with great style. Our personal favorite feature of the home is the patio overlooking the property.

Oh, and remember- we want to hear from you. Do you own a mid-century home? Have you or are you remodeling a mid-century home? Know someone with a sweet-a mid-century home?

If so, we want to hear about it and quite possibly feature it for your state! To submit your home or inquire, go to our contact page, write us a little dealy letting us know and we will get back to you asap.

Mid-Century State by State:: Washington

We are super excited about a new series we are launching this weekend! As you can probably guess by the name, each weekend we are going to be going state by state featuring one amazing mid-century home. This series will be running for close to a year. We have selected many homes to feature, however we want to hear from you.

This should be exciting. Off to our first state, Washington.

Designed by renown Seattle architect Al Bumgardner, this custom home was built in 1957 for Wallace, Kathleen and their family. They owned the home for over 50 years. Both were very involved in the homes design and the result is quite stunning with the combination of light, sharp angle and a gorgeous view.

The home was featured in The Seattle Times on Sunday, November 10, 1957. We were unsuccessful in finding an actual archive of this article, but here is a quote from it.

“A sense of spaciousness certainly exists throughout. Areas flow, one to another, on three levels so that the vistas inside the house are as interesting as the far-reaching panorama viewed from terraces and decks.  Ceilings rise to a height of 20 feet and window areas, including glass gables, panorama panes, strip and clerestory and skylights, attract natural light and view on all sides.”
