Tucked away in the Northwest corner of Washington State is a very talented photographer who is very dedicated to his process. Taran Minnihan has been perfecting his craft for the last few years in Port Townsend and last year we had the pleasure of getting to know him. Whether you know them as collages or multiples they are truly wonderful. On Taran’s flickr profile he says this of the images:

These pictures are inspired by the short but influential photographic experimentation of David Hockney. These are all pieced together in photoshop, with no out of camera manipulation, in other words, I stood in one spot and took multiple images in auto mode, then put them together in photoshop.

We love the way he uses his VW van as a character in many of his images and these are some of our personal favorites. Taran’s commitment to the process goes beyond what you see here and on his website, in that Taran doesn’t only print out these multiples in large hi-res images but also prints each small image that goes into a multiple and meticulously pieces them together by hand. This week we decided that we really need a new lamp (emphasis on “need”) for our living room. We are naturally thinking of something along the lines of Danish modern, mid-century modern (no big surprise there). After looking around a bit, it looks like we “need” something similar to the style below.
