HELP:: Paul Thiry House for $1
It’s sad but true, that great buildings with significant history often fall victim to the proverbial axe. Each year we see once glorious feats of design become simple afterthoughts. It is heartbreaking and so confusing when perfectly sound structures become a meat market for real estate ventures. Is there no appreciation for the founders of modern design? or respect for a longstanding monument of sorts?
Yesterday we wrote a post detailing the works and architectural career of the amazing Paul Thiry. Many of his forward-thinking modern designs have now been remodeled to the point of no recognition and demolished. For someone so involved in so much of the architecture we see today, you would think that his designs would be embraced. But alas no. His amazing house in Normandy park Seattle is set to be demolished in the Spring. Unless…someone buys it. For $1 dollar. Yes. One Dollar. The house has been rigged to be moved via barge and if purchased, the new owner of the house would pay only the moving costs of approx $200,000. This is an insane deal for such a piece of work and history.
The new owners are set to demolish the house and build newer developments in its place in the Spring. We urge you to help us find someone to buy this amazing house by re-posting, linking or tweeting this blog post. The countdown begins.
