The Sunday Times Market :: Finds for the Vintage Minded; Quite Serendipitous!
We are so excited to be writing our first official post here on The Sunday Times Market Blog :: Finds for the Vintage Minded; Quite Serendipitous!
It’s been super busy around here while we work on the store around the holidays. While we are still prepping, photographing and listing items, we figured it was a good time to introduce the store and blog. There are several items in our store currently, however over the next week we will be listing the remaining inventory and new finds as we discover them.
All of our larger items, furniture, lamps, etc will be listed as we finish the necessary TLC to make them perfect for you!

One of the purposes of this blog is to not only share new items we find for the store, but to share things we collect for ourselves and our home. We are Danish Modern junkies and all around mid century enthusiasts, so whenever we find something that tickles our fancy, we’ll share it here.
The vintage Samsonite Streamlite luggage as seen above, is one of our favorite finds to date. A “his and hers” duo of sorts. We actually first spotted the “his” piece one day and bypassed it because of a broken latch, huge painted name on one side and scuff marks. The next week it was still there and we decided to grab it and see if we couldn’t spruce it up. Heck, it was only $3 and bypassing it once again would be sacrilege. Sure enough, we were able to remove all of the scuffs, and repair the latch. We were even able to remove the 12 letter last name that had been stenciled on one side. How? With a little rubbing alcohol and one of our favorite eco-friendly products, Basic-H2 by Shaklee.
A couple weeks later we were wandering around the somewhat-scary basement of a local thrift store and in the far back corner under a table we found the second little gem, the faux crocodile “hers” piece. The best part was that this piece was in near perfect condition and with some minor dusting it was as good as new. Plus the $5 price tag sweetened the deal quite a bit as well.
One of the great things about each of these Samsonite Streamlites is the condition of the interior. No rips, stains, missing hooks, etc. We’ve found other vintage luggage in the past and almost all interiors and exteriors had been “very much loved”.
Such a find as this, is a great lesson to all you thrifters and vintage shoppers…good, no GREAT deals are out there and they are just waiting for you to find them. Have a great rest of your holiday weekend! More to come soon…
Oh! and here is an awesome vintage ad we found, circa 1955…

Enjoyed reading your post! I am on a search for 50′s samsonite streamlite luggage…light blue with silver flecks. My late mom had the 4 pc. set, brings back such memories….the hunt is on!
